What are sport injuries?
Sport injuries can be caused by direct impact or force that is greater than the body can withstand there are two types of sport injuries, including acute and chronic. Acute is when the injury is caused suddenly, such as a sprained ankle. Chronic injuries are caused by the overuse of muscle groups or joints. It is vital to visit a sports injury clinic to seek treatment as the injury may be worse than you think.
Common reasons why people visit a sports injury clinic include:
Ankle sprain
Hamstring injury
Knee joint pain
Jumper knees
ACL Injuries
Sky Podiatry | Foot Sports Injury Clinic
When you visit Sky Podiatry, our podiatrist will first examine which area you fall into. We look at the three P’s:
Prevention
Performance
Pain Management
Through the use of our top-of-the-line Sensor Medical pressure plate technology, we can assess if you are currently at risk of developing a sport injury or if you are looking to perform better and will discuss which treatments are best suited to ensure that no issues arise in the future.
In the pain management phase, we will look at improving the bodies proficiency and performance and provide a resolution for the pain. Ideally the result will be better performance, as well as minimising the risk of causing chronic injuries.
Podiatry and Load Management
When it comes to sport injuries, load management is highly important. The term load management refers to managing your activity and training commitments either whilst injured, or to prevent injury. When managing injury, the amount of load you do is very important, as injuries can occur due to over-load of certain soft tissues.
At Sky Podiatry, in our sports injury clinic, we often see patients who begin to feel better and start to do more, resulting in chronic injury. It is important to have the appropriate load management in place. During your consultation, your podiatrist will often ask you about the type and amount of training to determine your current level of activity or “load”. We then use this information to assess whether the amount of training you are doing is part of the cause of your injury (over-load or under-load) and whether we need to adjust your training load in order to support the healing process and ultimately get you back on your feet and working towards your health and fitness goals.
